| New Data-Over-Voice service option (ISDN DOV) Costs and Benefits: |
|
This is only a brief summary of costs/benefits of using ISDN DoV
versus a normal 56K analogue dial-in access to EON's servers. The
prices quoted herein are current at time of publication and is
subject to change by Telstra without prior approval.

 |
| What are
the full costs of implementing ISDN DOV? |
|
Let
us assume that you currently have a 56K modem and an account
with EON, and you have 2 problems. Firstly, you are unhappy
with the speed of your 56K modem, and secondly you have to compete
for time on your telephone line whenever you wish to access the
WWW.
There
are several once-off setup costs plus ongoing costs when choosing
ISDN DOV, as with other technologies for accessing the world-wide-web. These
are:
- Getting a Telstra ISDN OnRamp Home Highway line installed.
To upgrade your existing single telephone line, the installation cost
for Onramp Home Highway is $173 *
Benefit : You get 2 standard
telephone lines down the one cable, plus
the option to use ISDN DOV for data transfers
at 64K or 128K.
Note: as ISDN DOV uses synchronous
digital transmission, your effective throughput is
70% higher than the best performance achievable from
an analog 56K modem. Or at 128K, you
get a 270% improvement.
- Adding an ISDN DOV modem to your computer
RRP $267 inc GST - NETjet ISDN PCI Modem or
RRP $249 inc GST - NETjet ISDN Mouse USB modem (only for Intel Chipset)
Hint - check with EON to see if there are any plans available
that include a NETjet modem.
Benefit : You can make DOV
calls at the full ISDN digital 64K or 128K
speeds, for the cost of a 1 or 2 standard
telephone calls.
- Home Highway ISDN Line Rental
$34.70* per month includes 2 lines/channels - (current Telstra tariffs
correct at this time).
Benefit: For an extra line
rental, you can share 2 lines between telephone
calls and computer connections eg. 2 voice
calls, 1 voice call and a 64K DOV call, or
a 128K DOV call.
- Calls costs to EON.
For each 64K ISDN DOV call, your call costs will be 18 cents* per call untimed. Or
36 cents* for a 128K call, untimed.
Benefit: For example, if
you make one 64K call per day to EON (for
as long as you like without being disconnected),
for 30 days at 18c/call, then the total call
costs = $5.40 per month.
Or if you make one 128K call per day, for 30 days at 36 cents/call =
$10.80 per month.
* = +GST
In
summary, once you install OnRamp Home Highway and a ISDN modem,
the only additional cost over and above a 56K modem is for the
rental of the second telephone line, which you may want anyway. For
this you get rapid (1-2 seconds) connection, consistent 64K or
128K performance, fast ping times, error-free connections and
access to a second telephone line.
